How to export your flights from XContest and import them into FreeFly.ing

If you already log your flights on xcontest.org, you don't have to re-fly them to get them into FreeFly.ing — you can export the original IGC tracklogs and import them directly.

Step 1: Export your flights as IGC files from XContest

1. Sign in to your account at xcontest.org.
2. Open My flights.
3. Scroll to the bottom of the flights table — you'll see two download rows: Export: JSON | CSV and Download: IGC | ALL IGC.
4. Click ALL IGC to get every flight in one go, regardless of the contest/year filter selected at the top of the page. XContest packages them into a single .zip archive.
5. Save the .zip file somewhere you can find it, then unzip it — you should end up with a folder containing one .igc file per flight.

Important: FreeFly.ing's importer only accepts .igc files, not .zip archives. Always unzip the download before uploading — don't try to drop the .zip straight into FreeFly.ing.

If you only want a single flight, you don't need the bulk download: use the IGC link instead, or open that flight's row and download it individually.

Step 2: Import the IGC files into FreeFly.ing

1. In FreeFly.ing, go to My Log.
2. Click Add Log.
3. The Import IGC tab is selected by default — drag and drop your .igc file(s) into the upload area, or click it to browse. You can select multiple files at once.
4. Click Submit.

FreeFly.ing uploads each file and shows a live progress bar plus a per-file result list, so you can see exactly what happened to each flight:

• Saved — the flight was imported successfully.
• Skipped (duplicate) — you've already imported this exact flight before; nothing changes.
• Failed to upload — something went wrong with that specific file; the rest of the batch still continues.

Tips

• You can select and upload several IGC files in one go — there's no need to import them one at a time.
• Re-importing a flight you've already uploaded is safe: FreeFly.ing detects duplicates and skips them instead of creating a second copy.
• Once imported, your flight shows up in My Log alongside any flights you've entered manually.
